Excitement
Exposed underground layers
Visitors to Heimatwerk Saanen can view the archaeological excavations under the glass floor. The room itself was probably used as a house cellar or storage room.
There are several exposed underground layers:
- At the bottom is earth mixed with stone
- Above this is a burnt layer of a few centimetres in thickness (possibly due to the Saanen village fire of 1575)
- A layer of earth approx. 30 cm thick
- The clearly visible stone setting
